Diary of a non-fiction book: week 3 – day 1

Week three is still very much about research for me at the moment. I’m on chapter 3 of the research material and I’ve searched for and chosen my usual five websites, and added those to my Scrivener file. The cards are coloured pink for research, and they’ve been labelled “to do”.

I’m getting a little bit behind on the actual reading aspect though, and I’d like to catch up on that this week. I’d like to change some of those “to do” labels to “done”.

I don’t have a research day down in the archives this week, so that gives me an extra day at my desk. I have three books to read before I buy any more. What I want to do is finish reading some websites so I can correctly add those to the bibliography along with any credits or references.

I’ve added this week’s exercises to the book version of this blog series. Now I just need to try them out for myself as well.

I’m itching to be writing something, so if I can complete a chapter’s-worth of research, then I may have a go at writing the first draft of, say, chapter 1.

In the meantime, I’m also starting a new client-edit at the moment. If I can get that one done and invoiced, then at least the financial pressure will be off for a few weeks and I should be able to blitz the book.
