This book is very well written with a lot – a LOT – of research. However, I found it went on for far too long and when I was hit with yet more science, I started to switch off and had to force myself to finish it.
The other aspect I struggled with was the lack of detail, such as the *names* of the established and existing diets discussed and discarded (rather than just a description).
Every other diet or slimming book I’ve read isn’t afraid to name the competition. Perhaps I’ve become accustomed to television programmes that are more than happy to name and shame. And finally, the case study names came across as made-up and non-existent. I may be wrong, but this is how they came across.
I do feel that naming the diets and having pictures of those people interviewed, with actual facts and figures, would have made this book much more interesting for me. In particular, I’d like to see genuine success stories with real pictures and before-and-after experiences.
Saying all of this, before I started to lose concentration, I did feel I was learning something new and understanding why so many of my own diets and eating regimes have failed.
Very interesting, but could be more concise.
