Today I thought it might be a good idea to get myself organised. I have so many different projects on the go, it was time to weed some out. But before doing that, I wanted to put them into their own individual piles.
Here is how my current Work in Progress (WiP) is looking (sorry for the blurry pictures):
This is the current WiP pile. It’s so high, it’s almost toppling over.
This is my editing/proofreading folder for clients. I got it a long time ago, when I worked for a living at the National Grid in Coventry.
This is my short material bundle. There is a book with outlines in, another with market information and basic ideas, another with first drafts, another with second drafts, and then a typed version waiting for me to read it through.
Here is CATCH THE RAINBOW. This one has already been typed up so what’s left are the basic idea exercise book and the story bible.
THE BEAST WITHIN is the sequel to NIGHT CRAWLER. That’s why the original story bible for NIGHT CRAWLER is in there. The green box at the bottom keeps it all relatively tidy.
Here is the new ideas book. It’s one the poet bought me for a gift, it’s A5-sized, and it has a lovely touchy-feely cover.
This book has non-fiction stuff in. All of my notes for THE HISTORY OF CADBURY are in here, and also for the 3 new book proposals I want to write. (There were supposed to be 2 new book proposals, but I had a bit of a brain murmur, so now there are 3.)
THE FOOL is the first in a new series. When I put all of these books together, I was really surprised at how much material I have. There’s even quite a lot already written, in an A4 note book. This little lot is kept tidy in an orange box.
This one is WHITEHORSE FARM, a standalone I’ve been “writing” for a very long time. The spiral bound notebook is the story bible, and the exercise book has outlines, character info, suggested names for horses, and so on.
Here is MARDI GRAS, my first winning NaNoWriMo project. It needs a good read-through and I think there’s lots of “needs more here”. It was my first attempt at a steampunk time-travelling story and I really enjoyed writing it.
The working title for this one has fluctuated between SYMPATHY AND POMAGNE and CIDER AND SYMPATHY. It’s a prequel to CATCH THE RAINBOW and book 1 in a 6-book series … if I ever get any finished.
And finally, here is my collection of “writing bags”. The shoulder bag with the converse on was another gift from the poet when we were on our honeymoon in Cyprus – he wants to re-lace the shoes because they’re apparently wrong, but they’re also stitched in place, so they drive him slightly bonkers every time he sees them. The red leather one is a proper briefcase that also holds a laptop.
I hope that gives some idea and that they’re not too messy on the device you’re viewing this on.
All I have to do now is prioritise, and then get cracking. I’m currently umming and ahhing on the short material, with so many recent changes in the women’s magazines markets, so that may get shelved, or it may get re-purposed and targeted at competitions and anthologies.
Time to get me finger out!
Which one would you choose to work on next? Which one would you like to see soon? Which one(s) would you shelve?
As ever, you have lots on the go. But, it looks far more organised, already, than I could ever be!

I don’t feel very organised at the moment. I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed.
