Project management

I find that I am using quite a few of this particular artist’s images from Pixabay. The style obviously works for me. I’ve even chosen an image by this author for the cover design on my next series of books.

Yes, that’s right. I’ve started not just one book, but a series of books. I’m not going to go into a great deal of detail until I know whether or not it has legs. But I’ve already drafted the introductions and the first chapters for all five books, as well as the initial content. So it’s already looking good.

I spent all of Monday on this and all of Tuesday morning. And then I got back to the rest of my work.

Project management

The poet is a continuous improvement manager, or process engineer, in real life. Part of that means that he’s also a coach, and one of his topics is project management.

I’ve read so many books about the process of writing over the years and I’m finally starting to glean snippets from each of them and am gathering all the bits that work for me together.

The problem then was that I’ve been keeping it all inside my head and feeling a bit overwhelmed. As it happens, I’m a logical, left-brained, linear kinda gal as well as being creative. I’m not sure if that’s a bit of an oxymoron, but the poet is the same.

He makes music, he cooks, he paints, he takes photographs, and he’s also an engineer. I bake, I sew, I knit, I write, and I make lists. Lots of lists.

With 1 March looming,  not only a new month but also a new week, at the weekend I asked the poet if he could help me sort out all the mess that was inside my head, and he took me through one of his project management processes.

And I liked it. I really, really liked it.

So on Sunday, we sat down and we went through it all, and I think we’ve come up with a process that works. Time will tell, so watch this space.

Ghostwriting

The new ghostwriting gig arrived on Saturday, and by Monday the new contract was all set up and already running. I should have started it yesterday, but I wanted to get down the new idea first. So it’s starting this afternoon instead.

And that’s it for today.

  1. Certainly the postits looked very interesting. You are both highly organised people and I admire you for that. I think I was organised once and a little bit of it hangs in there…but retirement has a sneaky way of making you lose track of time. That’s my excuse anyway!!

    1. Some might say I spend too much time organising and not enough time creating … but as I can’t even start to create without being organised, I just ignore them!
Lockdown and furlough have the same effect as retirement, it seems. 😉
