I did have plans on Friday to finish editing those extra pages for the big editing job. But the phone started to ring first thing regarding the sale of my late parents’ house. It wasn’t just a case of speaking to the solicitor. I had to speak to the solicitor, speak to my sister, speak to the probate co-ordinator, and more than once. It was a case of stand by the phone for much of the day. Every time I started something, it rang.
So I gave up and instead turned my attention to the display problem I’m having on my book shop page. This wasn’t a problem on 19 January when I first started to use Easy Digital Editions. It was only a problem last week when the images stopped displaying properly on new downloads. EDD tech were very good, considering I’m a free customer rather than a premium customer. But they couldn’t work out what was wrong.
In the end, they blamed the theme, or skin. Coldbox. They said I must have changed my theme since then, but I haven’t. I know I haven’t, but I can’t show them I haven’t because all of this fiddling around with display issues has wiped all of my previous activity log, or saved over the top of it. I wondered if my theme had been updated, but it hasn’t had an update since June last year.
They’re certain I’ve changed my theme, but I know the only thing I did was turn the falling snow off. But even that was before 19 January. What has changed, though, is WordPress itself, which has been updated recently, and twice in one week, and EDD. So I spent much of Friday looking for a new theme where the featured images worked how I want them to. And I can’t find any.
EDD has suggested I contact Coldbox. But I may just remove EDD and find another book shop that works. I’ll see. It’s not ideal at the moment, and the OCD in me hates to see the different download images. So I may also remove the new downloads. Or, I’ll try the images at a much smaller size, see if that works. But I was peeved that it took most of the day and only relieved that I wasn’t working on anything pressing.
The house sale did go through. We exchanged and completed contracts on the same day. (Yay!) And that’s one tick off my list of non-work obligations.
The poet made a prawn carbonara for tea, and we had some of the Valentine cake for pudding.
Saturday morning the dog was at the vet for his monthly anti-inflammatory jab and to collect his next lot of drugs. It was a big month drug-wise for him, and that meant a hefty fee. After collapsing in a corner from the shock, I staggered to the desk and paid it. We went shopping next. The poet stayed in the car with the dog. And then we visited the mother-in-law on the way home.
Sunday we were up relatively early for us at the weekend. We didn’t go out, though. Instead, we spent time in the garden clearing away ivy and broken glass from the greenhouse. The dog was a different animal to the one he’s been in recent weeks, and we think that infection he had, or the drugs they gave him for it, might have knocked him a bit sideways.
For dinner (lunch) on both days, we had French bread with Brussels pate. For tea on Saturday he made meatballs and rice, and we finished the Valentine cake. And on Sunday he cooked a roast pork dinner, and we had (shop-bought) Bakewell tart and ice cream for pudding.
On the list today:
- THE SECRET OF WHITEHORSE FARM
- brainstorm a short story
- produce a newsletter
- edit those 24 extra pages
- take the recycle bin out
- call pension company #1 (of 3)
- start utilising Plottr to help me learn it
I’m so glad the sale went through. And how wonderful you didn’t have to be there in person for all the signings, etc. That must be a huge relief.
Ugh on the tech issues.
Sounds like you have a good week planned!
It was a rocky road getting there, co-ordinating signatures and witnesses for me and for my sister. But it meant it all went smoothly on the day, which is the most important thing.
I’m hoping to get through a lot of work this week while he’s away… fingers crossed.
