As we’re currently on our annual Easter break, here’s one I prepared earlier.
My friend Devon celebrates her 20th blogversary this week.
I first ‘met’ Devon when I was blogging over at Blogger. I think Devon may have already been with WordPress by the time we found each other, but I have an inkling she also started on Blogger. (No doubt she will correct me if I’m wrong.)
I remember wondering if Devon was a man or a woman, but I soon worked out that she was a she. Or she was a man with a fetish penchant for ladies shoes!
Since then we’ve become good pals, supporting each other and cheering each other along over the years. Our birthdays are 2 days apart and also 2 years apart.
In those days, blogging was still quite young and was about to burst into popularity. First of all, MySpace came along, but I don’t think I carried any of my blog buddies over there. I did, however, take them to Facebook with me, and some of them took me to Twitter with them.
I’m still friends with people I first met in blog-land, both here and across the pond. I’ve stayed at one blog buddy’s house (waves to Norfolk) and another blog buddy has stayed at my house (waves to Nebraska). Devon and I, however, have yet to meet, but we have exchanged addresses and greetings cards, and even real names.
Blogging dropped out of fashion again for a long time, but some of us kept going – including Devon and me. Now, with privacy concerns and platforms popping up and dropping off again at will, blogging seems to be having a bit of a revival, alongside personally owned mailing lists. But some of us never went.
Please nip on over to say hello to Devon and wish her well. Here’s the link. Twenty years of blogging is a lorra lorra words.
Thank you for the mention! Yes, I started on Blogger before moving to WordPress. Isn’t it amazing how time flies!
It most certainly is!
