Friday 11 October 2024: Friday again!

So it’s Friday again already! [sigh!] This week seems to have flown by.

I didn’t bake any cookies on Wednesday night but I did make the pear sponge. We were supposed to have a cod dinner, but the fish had expired the day before, and you can’t be too careful with fish.

Instead, we rustled up what we could find in the freezer and ended up with fish fingers (2 types), French fries, peas and sweetcorn, with bread and butter. The pear sponge afterwards with hot custard made it a proper comfort tea. It was all delicious.

On Thursday morning I started by sharing yesterday’s blog post on Bluesky and on Medium. I opened 3 stories on Medium to read and react to. And I opened up the comments on 12 STORIES IN 12 MONTHS for last month’s story.

Only one of the Medium stories merited a response, but I replied to everyone who commented on my story for last month and opened up their pages to read and comment on their latest stories, also submitted on Wednesday. Then I chose another 2 that, so far, didn’t have any comments on them. I read each of the stories, and commented on them all.

A Kickstarter I backed matured and I downloaded the anthology of Christmas stories that’s just been published.

Another Kickstarter I backed gave the opportunity to submit a story to PULPHOUSE FICTION MAGAZINE and I looked at the October brief, which arrived last week. It’s one I could do, and by the end of the month, if I can make it sufficiently weird. It’s the weird bit I doubt.

My favourite annual Kickstarter from these guys (the Holiday Spectacular) goes live later in the month, so I pegged the page and asked for a notification when it opens.

While I was downloading books, I went and collected another 4 from NetGalley and added them to my Trello board. Then I put a few in order to read so I have some chance of posting the review around the publication date.

I alternated Pomodoros on my tax return and on CATCH THE RAINBOW. I shared the gig list post. I caught up on a couple of blogs. I printed off the client edit to proofread. I changed the toner on the printer. And I updated my word-count spreadsheet.

WMG Publishing is having a massive sale on their Teachable products and I fired off an email asking for a couple of clarification points. There’s a challenge I fancy, but it will tie me up for a whole year and I wondered when the challenge would start. We can set our own start date, but I didn’t want to be too cheeky and start it too far into the future, i.e. January.

Today is busy and we have a gig over the weekend, so I have a lot to do. I’d best crack on.

Have a good one!

  1. Thank you for the comment on my story on 12 stories in 12 months. I found out about this through your blog and have managed to write a story a month since January. I have found it to be a good discipline and there are some stories I have written that I may take further as novellas. I am very glad to have found that website, so thank you.

    1. Oh my goodness, was that you? (Although, the thought did cross my mind…) (I mean, it’s your name and everything! I should have realised.) I wish you’d told me sooner. 😁 I’ll have to go back now and check what I said! We’ll have to make friends on there.

      EDIT: Friend request sent!
