It’s publication day today for my SHORT STORY The Weather Can Be Murder, Wordsworth Short #36. This is a story I wrote as an assignment for the fantasy thriller workshop. I rewrote it and posted it on 12 Stories in 12 Months, and in January it appeared in Words Worth Reading Issue Two. Now it’s a standalone in its own right.
You can buy it here.
Friday
Friday morning’s errand was a walk down to the doctor’s surgery to collect our repeat prescriptions. It’s a short walk, but coming back is all uphill, so that makes it a good mini workout. When we got back, I fed the birds and shared Friday’s blog post to Bluesky.
Then I wrote up not one, but 2 book reviews. Well, they were reprints, but I still had to bring them up to date and top and tail them with pertinent openings and closings. I created the graphics online in Photopea, which is the only package I know how to use .psd files. They’re supposed to work in Affinity too, but I haven’t worked that out yet. Photopea is free and easy, and there’s also a premium version if people want to stop adverts. The graphics were finished in Canva before I downloaded the final versions.
I scheduled them both to post on here – one on the Saturday just gone and one for next Saturday – and I posted them both to Instagram. Then I created the graphic for today’s post on here.
I quite like the mockups I’ve used for the book reviews. I’d use them on my own publication day graphics too, but there isn’t enough room for all of the information. In all instances, I created a Twitter graphic that can also be used here and on Facebook, and an Instagram graphic that’s the right dimensions for an Instagram post.
I did some editing work and some diary work, but the graphics took up most of the day.
Saturday
On Saturday I shared Saturday’s book review post to BlueSky and caught up on social media in general. Then we drove to the supermarket via Home Bargains to do the main weekly shop. We dropped a birthday card off at the granddaughter’s and had a long chat with the daughter.
We were supposed to be doing other shopping too, but the poet was feeling really bad. He’s always suffered terribly with bronchial viruses, colds and flu but at least now he knows that’s what it is and not the polyps he used to have playing up all the time, or sinusitis.
We headed home and he cancelled his business travel for today and tomorrow. He’ll still work, but he didn’t really want to spend a a night in a hotel feeling shit when he could stay at home and feel shit instead.
Sunday
We were going to nip out in the campervan for a day trip, but the poet didn’t feel up to it and I had work to catch up on. So we stayed home. Instead he made a start on this week’s washing (he was supposed to be taking it easy!) while I worked for 3 Pomodoros on the client edit. After almost 3 hours, my eyes were crossing, and I put it to one side.
I nipped onto the Mac to write and schedule today’s post. He put a turkey joint into the slow cooker and cleaned the kitchen! He would have had a better rest driving north for an hour or so.
Today
This morning I’m going to do a few more hours on the client edit before starting my own work. This week I have a short story to write and finish before Wednesday and a novella to finish writing by the end of Friday.
Sounds like a good weekend, although I hope the poet feels better soon!
Thank you!
